Approximate Method for Determining the Center of Gravity of Four-legged Farm Animals

Author(s): Dimitar Georgiev

The aim of the study is to present an approximate method for determining the center of gravity of four-legged farm animals. By already known techniques of theoretical mechanics calculations are made, as the body of the animal is divided into typical figures.
Coordinate systems like XY and YZ have been introduced and the coordinates of the centers of gravity of the individual typed figures have been calculated and the center of gravity of the whole figure is calculated. It is represented as a vertical force with a direction from the
center of gravity of the animal, perpendicular to the floor surface and is expressed as a point on a cutting line at a distance of 90.5 cm from the hind limbs. The calculation model showed that the front two limbs exert a load equivalent to 391 kg, and the hind limbs 409 kg.

Keywords: farm animals, center of gravity, approximate method for calculating the load on the limbs
